W. Eric Wong received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University, West Lafayette. He is a Full Professor, Director of the Software Engineering Program, and the Founding Director of the Advanced Research Center for Software Testing and Quality Assurance, a US NSF-sponsored I/UCRC (Industry/University Cooperative Research Center), in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Prior to joining UTD, he was with Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore – Bell Communications Research) as a senior research scientist and a project manager in charge of Dependable Telecom Software Development.
Professor Wong was the recipient of the 2014 IEEE Reliability Society Engineer of the Year. He was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Reliability from 2016 to 2022. Professor Wong has served as a special issue guest editor of the Journal of Systems and Software (Elsevier), Information and Software Technology (Elsevier), IEEE Computer, Software: Practice and Experience (Wiley), Software Quality Journal (Springer), and the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (World Scientific).
Professor Wong's research focuses on helping practitioners improve software quality while reducing production costs. In particular, he is working on software testing, program debugging, risk analysis, safety, and reliability. In 2020, Professor Wong received two Most Influential Paper awards (a.k.a., Test of Time awards) for papers published in the following journal and conference in 2010: (1) the Journal of Systems and Software and (2) IEEE International Conference on Software Testing. He has published more than 200 papers and edited three books.
